Introduction

This time it isn't only a short Update Announcement, but a newsletter. It will inform you about the developments of Dragon's Library. There will also be Mini-Update Announcements in the future, but once a month I want to give you more than that.

This issue was sent as HTML version. Who didn't get a readable copy, please mail me.

New Stories

"Journeys - Part 1" by Lledrith RavenWolf"
A Dark Elf fanfic:

"...
Catti-Brie looked to her with an intuitive stare, and for a moment the auburn, light skinned girl locked gazes with the white haired, ebony dark K’yanae, then both looked away to the gossip of the merchants.

Normally at this point it would be stated that even though the two did not know it, they had a lot in common. Actually, they didn’t.

For your information, they weren’t flip sides of the same coin either.
..."

"The Horn of Valere" by Durandir
An alternative reality WoT fan-fiction

"...
But the Dark One fought by destroying all of his enemy's creations, wreaking havoc across the heavens, the same way that men make war in our world and destroy each other.
..."

"The Rambling Roleplay FAQ (the Dark Version)" by Sundara
Dark Sister Sundara answers:

"...
The Dark Sisters are beautiful, charming, intelligent and very dangerous women who claim to be the Dark One's younger sisters. He doesn't dare argue the point.
..."

and "Real Reality" (WoT Roleplaying) got a small update

Feedback

With the last update two new pages were permanently added - the feedback page and a guest book. The [What's new?] page links to both. I don't need to explain, why I ask for feedback. It's obvious. All questions are optional, but the more detailed you answer the better I can react to it and put your suggestion in actions.

Self Promotion Column (SPC)

The last time you visited Dragon's Library you probably noticed already the new column on the right side of the [What's new?] page. Lacking a better name, I call it the Self Promotion Column (SPC). (You have a better idea? Mail me!). I have started to move there everything that isn't related directly to the fan fiction (book links, feedback questions, etc.). A clear separation from the site content is in your interest, I think.

Why such a Self Promotion Column at Dragon's Library?
Why do you even have these unrelated things?

These are legitimate questions, because sometimes I would prefer to be without them too. Alas,I need them. Three reasons for it:

  • Dragon's Library needs visitors, the more the better. A web site without visitors is wasted memory space. Fan fiction without readers ... Thus self promotion.
  • Dragon's Library needs feedback to improve constantly.
  • The hard reality is that Dragon's Library also needs cash. The association with amazon books helps to cover the domain and web hosting fees.
I hope that you won't resent it, but that you will use it to take part in the improvement of the site.

Book Recommendation

First, amazon.com did recently an interview with the fantastic fiction author Tad Williams: "And the Kitchen Sink, Too". Check it out!

 Lynn Flewelling: The Nightrunner series

Does anyone know her and these books? I read the first two books in the German translation.

Actually they should be one book because the frame plot is concluded in volume two. Though the external plot is not so new, I was charmed by the excellent characterization of Seregil and Alec and the others. The politics and intrigues cause some interesting sub plots and give the story flair. Therefore both books, "Luck in the Shadows" (Das Licht in den Schatten) and "Stalking Darkness" (Der Gott der Dunkelheit), belong to my personal favourites. The third book "Traitor's Moon" I don't know yet, but I think it will be a christmas gift for me.

  Luck in the Shadows

Buy it at amazon.com or amazon.co.uk!

Stalking Darkness

Buy it at amazon.com or amazon.co.uk!

  Traitor's Moon
Buy it at amazon.com or amazon.co.uk!

Take a look at Lynn Flewelling's Author Page!

Do you have a personal favorite too? A book that isn't necessary on the bestseller lists, though with the certain flair that appealed to you. Recommend it to the other readers in the next issue!

Contest Reminder

Please, remember that each story has a rating box at its end! The ratings are needed for the FanFiction Contest 1999. The rating/voting for the stories of '99 goes until the end of January 2000. A story is scored by its rating and also by the number of votes.

You can rate EACH story ONCE!
